The joy of the Resurrection

In this month of April we received in our community of Ipê Amarelo Father Serafim who came to join us in the mission. And together he brought the joy of the first Mass in our mission house Santa Terezinha. Since I arrived a year and six months ago, there had not been a Holy Mass in our house. To receive the Eucharistic Christ is to renew our strength and keep alive the hope of continuing our journey.

In this time of uncertainty, of waiting in which we cannot plan well the future, the next steps, the joy of being able to live this moment is immense. I had a great desire to say “Lamb of God” in community.

The presence of the missionary spirit, the desire to live and work with us in community, which was evident in the attitudes and words of father… also made me vibrate with joy. May Jesus the missionary unite and strengthen us on this journey, so that together we may live the mission of the Risen Christ.

The research report team shows in the report how the passing of the trains compromises the communities living on their margins and how the iron dust from the steel mills infiltrates the houses and threatens the health of an entire village.

In it we can see the village of Piquiá de Baixo (from minute 35) where our Comboni family closely accompanies this reality and the struggle for a resettlement in the neighborhood of Piquiá de la Conquista.

Research Report: Carajás Dossier, Corruption and carelessness

Divided into four chapters, the first episode shows some of the impacts that one of the largest freight trains in the world leaves in the 28 cities and more than 100 towns it passes through. The large research report reveals how the wealth of mining contrasts with the misery and suffering of the residents of the Carajás railroad, how the lack of pedestrian bridges exposes residents to routine accidents at crossings, and how corruption scandals drain the public coffers of municipalities cut off by the CFE.

In this report we can see the reality of the communities affected by the problems of mining in the northeast of Brazil where the Comboni Family accompanies the communities. Our CLM community has been present for more than 25 years.

Campaign on the harmful effects of mining activity on health and the environment

Today, October 29, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), together with Justiça nos Trilhos (Justice on the Rails), launched a campaign to alert the world’s citizens who unconsciously consume the products of mining and steel companies that for more than three decades have been deteriorating the health and polluting the environment of the community of Piquiá de Baixo, in the Brazilian Amazon.

The campaign marks the 30th anniversary of Grupo Ferroeste in the municipality of Açailândia and invites everyone to support the struggle for the rights of this community, to which the companies and the State have closed their eyes for so long.
